So just what exactly is G.hn technology? An acronym for Gigabit Home Networking, G.hn is a specification for wired home networking that operates over four types of legacy wires—coax, twisted pair, powerline, and plastic optical fiber—and supports speeds up to 2 Gbit/s.

Because G.hn technology enables high-speed data transmission over existing home wiring, consumers no longer need to install costly new cabling. Essentially, G.hn transforms Gigabit broadband with reliable delivery of Gigabit speeds across various mediums in a building, simplifying network deployment for service providers and users alike by providing:

  • Gigabit speeds without fiber installation or new infrastructure
  • Streamlined home and business connectivity

Low-latency, high-performance networks

  • Cost-effective, scalable broadband expansion

A New Movement

For last-mile broadband access and professional A/V products, OptiConn is a leading, advanced technology provider that has cost-effectively connected A/V networks from end to end. Its many years of experience in the A/V sector perfectly positions it to continue its expertise, now with revolutionizing G.hn gigabit broadband solutions in addition to its advanced, innovative fiber optic and IP options.

Serving a variety of consumers, OptiConn offers the seamless G.hn advantage to safely and securely benefit many industries:

  • Telecommunications
  • Internet Service Providers (ISPs)/wireless ISP
  • Multi-system Operators
  • Hospitality
  • Property Management
  • Municipalities and Co-ops
  • A/V integrators

These businesses can take advantage of already existing copper infrastructure in multiple dwelling units (MDUs) by delivering high speed Internet along with 4K IPTV—without significant capital investment, construction, and operational expenses associated with deployment of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). OptiConn’s G.hn technology essentially bridges the gap, offering a cost-effective alternative to FTTH. Similarly, for hotel/resort owners and property managers, this cutting-edge application delivers high-speed broadband to each tenant on any given property.

The Genius of G.hn

OptiConn uses MDF-2400 G.hn access multiplexer (GAM) to convert 10GE fiber or XGS-PON to copper phone lines, allowing service providers to deliver high-speed Internet to numerous subscribers within MDUs. MDF-2400 GAM’s 24-port connectivity over twisted pair cable supports single-in-single-out (SISO)/1 pair per port and multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO)/2 pairs per port.

For the telecommunications market, OptiConn delivers SISO with high-speed Internet up to 500 feet on a single-pair phone line or MIMO up to 800 feet on 2-pair phone lines. Ultimately, G.hn MIMO technology is much more efficient and less complex than DSL pair bonding, as it eliminates the need for dual ports to serve a single subscriber.

With other industries, OptiConn utilizes MDF-6000 with 6 coax ports serving up to 96 subscribers using a single GAM. Whether using coax or twisted pair phone line to serve subscribers with Gigabit broadband, both offer robust and reliable network connectivity using G.hn technology. Several high-speed Internet options are available: single port 1000 BaseT Ethernet, 4 port 10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet, or WiFi.

To meet market demands, OptiConn offers the following product categories:

  • 10G ONT11
  • G.hn 2.0 COAX GAM22
  • G.hn 2.0 phone line GAM11
  • G.hn 2.0 CPEs55
